Note: Canvas is a deprecated system. We are now using Articulate Online to host courses. To register your class for Articulate Online follow the instructions at the registration overview page.

Accessing STEM Online NZ via CANVAS

First, make sure you have self-registered with The University of Auckland to obtain a username and password, and specifically requested to use Canvas (Since early 2020 our default access system is the simpler Articulate Online). Then enrol in the STEM Online NZ course of your choosing – more about how to register and enrol for STEM Online NZ courses here.

You and all of your students that you wish to access STEM Online NZ courses will need to both self-register with the University to obtain a username and password, AND be enrolled in the course you wish to access. Each teacher and student needs to self-register individually, but the enrolment can be done using a single form sent to our Project Coordinator.

If you have registered with the University but not enrolled in any courses, you will likely see an error page when you try to log on to CANVAS. Enrolments can take a few working days to process, so get in ahead of time.

You will need your username and password from registration to log in to CANVAS. If you have a username from previous study or employment with the University of Auckland and have trouble logging in, you may need to reset your password.

Log in to CANVAS by visiting canvas.auckland.ac.nz and using your University of Auckland username and password.

Our suggested browser is Google Chrome, and we suggest that users accessing the resource from a shared computer room clear their browser cache or browse in incognito mode – this resolves a lot of common issues arising found at this stage.

When you first log in to CANVAS, the courses you have enrolled in should appear on your dashboard.

If a course seems to be missing, select ‘courses’ from the sidebar menu, and click ‘all courses’ to view the courses you are enrolled in. Courses with a coloured star beside them will appear on your dashboard. Click the stars beside the course to control what appears on your dashboard.

If a course has not appeared in ‘All courses’ you may need to enrol in the course, or it may still be processing (it can take up to three working days between sending the form to our Project Coordinator and being able to access the course).

Each tile on the dashboard represents a course. Courses are active for one year at a time, so be sure that your enrolments are up to date, and use the ‘all courses’ option under the ‘courses’ tab on the sidebar to choose what courses are displayed and keep your dashboard fresh!

Click on a tile to visit the home page for that course.
Each home page will look a bit different depending on how the course content is arranged, but the basic elements will remain the same.
